Demonetised notes worth Rs 3 crore seized in Pune

PUNE: Pune police on late Thursday night detained five men from Raviwar Peth and seizes over 48,000 demonetised currency notes of the denomination of Rs 1,000 and 500. The face value of the seized notes is around Rs 2.99 crore.
Gajendra Abhang 48-year-old member of Sangamner municipal council in Ahmednagar district in one the five men who have been detained by the police. The others include Vijay Shinde (38), Aditya Ghavan (25), Navnath Bhandagale (28) all from Pune and Suraj Jagtap (40) of Satara district.

A Khadak police team led by senior inspector Rajendra Mokashi has detained the five men on a tip-off.

Mokashi told TOI that the five men were caught when they had come for exchanging the demonetized currency notes. "We have recovered 11,600 notes of the denomination of Rs 1,000 and 36,000 notes of Rs 500 from them," Mokashi said.

He said that the face value of the seized notes is about Rs 2.99 crore. "Our probe is on," Mokashi said.
