CHENNAI: In what could spur vertical development in prime locations in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu government has allowed construction of multi-storeyed buildings (MSB) on approved plots.
Speaking at a conference of CREDAI Tamil Nadu -- STATECON-2018 –on Friday, deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam said hitherto MSBs were not allowed in approved plots.

"We have made an announcement in the assembly to replace it. Accordingly, MSBs would be allowed in the approved plots, which will help to maximise utilisation of the precious land," he said.

He further added that the state government would soon implement common building rules.

Noting that single window clearance for planning permission would be launched, he said, "As part of it, common building rules are being framed, which are essential for getting planning permission and building permits. Rules are framed by categorising highrise, non-highrise structures and affordable housing," he said.

The common building rules would be implemented after getting suggestions from the stakeholders, he added.

Earlier, in his address, housing and urban development secretary S Krishnan said that soft launch of approvals through online had been carried out.
