After unrest, Shillong yet to normalise

Fifty days after a minor scuffle snowballed into a stand-off between Khasi tribal groups and Dalit Sikh settlers, the dust is yet to settle in Meghalaya capital Shillong.

The police in the East Khasi Hills district said the situation in Shillong is far from normal. District authorities have thus decided to continue with night curfew in the city from 12 a.m. (midnight) to 5 a.m.

“The city will take some more time to become normal. There are undercurrents suggesting that some elements might create trouble,” Superintendent of Police Davis Marak said, asserting that peace would be maintained at any cost.
