Hry CM okays Rs 9 cr under road safety fund

In a move to further improve road and traffic safety in the State, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has sanctioned a sum of Rs 9 crore under the Road Safety Fund.

“The fund will be utilised for the procurement of ultra-modern equipments and vehicles to prevent loss of human life in road accidents, keep a check on drunken driving, over speeding and strengthening e-challan system in the state,” said Director General of Police, BS Sandhu on Thursday.

Sandhu said that 61 alco-sensor, 402 e-challan machines, 12 each of interceptor vehicles, small and big cranes would be procured with the funds. This will help in strengthening the police machinery as well as to check and punish the people who are habitual of traffic violations, he said.

The DGP said that continuous steps were being taken by the government to make the police system updated and alert.

In addition to these, traffic related equipments, reflective jacket and angle, face mask, bar light, large and effective barricade and traffic helmets would be purchased and proper publicity would also be ensured by organising traffic awareness seminars and workshops in the districts, he said.

The government is concerned with the increase in numbers of incidents of drunken driving as this can also lands other drivers and passers-by in trouble, he added.

He said that police is working with 40 interceptor vehicles to counter the increase in the number of accidents caused due to over speeding on the roads and 64,245 challans have been issued in year 2017 alone.
