Government initiates process to cancel erroneously printed passbooks

The State Government has issued orders to cancel pattadar passbooks printed for the lands/assets owned by it during the land record updation programme (LRUP).

The officials concerned had erroneously printed 3,496 passbooks relating to government land as part of the LRUP.

A major chunk of 734 passbooks for government lands were printed in Medak followed by Nizamabad districts where 376. Of the total 3,496 passbooks, 207 had already been distributed among the beneficiaries.

As many as 9,097 pattadar passbooks were printed with respect to lands under forest boundary disputes with Mahbubnagar accounting to a major chunk of 7,058. In addition, 3,244 passbooks relating to lands in arbitration by the civil courts were printed of which 312 had already been distributed among the beneficiaries.

The government, according to sources, initiated the process for cancellation of these passbooks printed erroneously. “Given the magnitude of the land record purification for which the State has won accolades from across the country, there is scope for some errors creeping in.

But, we have initiated the process for cancellation of passbooks issued in respect of government’s own lands and others where there are disputes,” a minister told The Hindu.

Courageous decision

The minister said the launch of land record updation itself was a courageous decision as no government had dared to do so in the past. The process has been set in motion and it will take some time for it to stabilise.

“Things are already falling into place and it will take a couple of months for the entire process to get streamlined,” he said.
