Bhopal: Cyber crime police Bhopal have busted an inter-state gang of cyber criminals who withdrew Rs 17.36 lakh in Ahemdabad last year after cloning debit cards using skimmers at SBI ATM in Shivoy Complex in Gulmohar Colony. The 11 member gang includes 4 women.
The gang has targeted the customers in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Shimla and Surat and had withdrawn more than Rs 1 crore in last few years, said cyber police.
The fraud took place on July 8, 2017 and a complaint was filed on July 12, by as many as 73 customers. The CCTV footages of all the cameras installed in the area and nearby areas were searched and shared across the country to establish the identity of the fraudsters.
During the investigation police got vital links regarding an accused that was traced in Mumbai. For the next three months his movements were tracked. Eventually one of the accused Mohammad Hussain Hakam was nabbed from Reliance Mall at Kalka road.
The accused confessed that the gang is active for the past six years and have visited the state capital twice. Gang members including Faizan, Hussain, Ayesh and Sameera visited city for crime.
Police said that Hakam was booked for robbery while another member of gang Faizan escaped to Dubai or Saudi Arabia. The accused has been sent under police custody for 8 days. The search for the other gang members would be done based on the information extracted from the accused.
