Noida: A moderate rain lasting two hours threw traffic out of gear in Noida on Friday morning. The 10mm rain was enough to create
waterlogging at several locations though it brought down the pollution level by several notches. The Air Quality Index dipped to 88.
The day temperature settled at 33 degrees Celsius while the night temperature remained at 28 degrees Celsius. Following the rain, waterlogging at the DND loop near Film City kept the traffic crawling between 10am and 2pm.
Traffic inspector VS Chauhan said commuters had to battle waterlogging at the loop till about 1.30 pm.
On July 14, TOI had reported how traffic police officers had demanded that the Noida Authority find a permanent solution for the waterlogging at the DND loop which is a perennial problem. Rajiv Tyagi, in-charge, Noida traffic cell, said the Authority will work on a solution for the problem.
Thundershowers occurred in Delhi also on Friday morning. The city recorded 24.2mm rain till 5.30pm, and the weatherman says there will be heavy rain in the next two days resulting in the maximum temperature falling to 30 degrees Celsius.
In the morning, between 9am and 11am, there was waterlogging and traffic snarls. But in a major relief, there was no waterlogging at Minto Bridge. Cars moved freely there with workers from both PWD and DJB working on the drainage system. A senior DJB official said a drain blockage outside the BJP headquarters was removed.
Meanwhile, about 65mm rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours. “Delhi will see showers over the next 4-5 days with strong activity expected on Saturday and Sunday. Moderate to light showers are expected in different parts of the capital on both Monday and Tuesday,” a met official said.
