BENGALURU: The Infosys Foundation headed by Sudha Murty will construct the Metro station at Konappana Agrahara near Electronics City at a cost of Rs 200 crore.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Murty and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) managing director Ajay Seth in the presence of chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and deputy chief minister G Parameshwara on Thursday.

The foundation will construct the station and maintain it for 30 years. The station to come up on 2 lakh sqft land will be completed by 2021 and 3,000 sqft of space will be reserved for the foundation to conduct art and other exhibitions. The station will also be named after the foundation.

“I’m happy that Infosys Foundation is partnering in expansion of the Metro rail network in Bengaluru,” said Murty after signing the MoU. She said the foundation’s contribution to the Metro project is not a charity but duty towards her motherland. “Metro rail has been playing a major role in reducing traffic congestion in the city,” she said.

The CM lauded the foundation for joining hands with the government. “The foundation’s decision to maintain the station for 30 years shows Sudha’s love for her motherland... The government will make best use of their contribution,” he added.

Parameswhara urged other corporate houses to donate 2% of their profit for city’s infrastructure. He said five lakh people are travelling in Metro every day and the number will go up to 30 lakh once the ongoing work on Phase 2 is completed.
