The trial run of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) proposed ‘Chill Buses,’ using low-floor air-conditioned Volvo buses of the Kerala Urban Road Transport Corporation, will commence on July 23.
Although the Statewide launch of the Chill Buses is on August 1 from the Thiruvananthapuram Central bus station, the trial run is being organised to plug operational difficulties when 180 buses are pressed into service from the capital to Kasaragod on the inaugural day.
Commuters can travel on the Chill Buses from Monday, according to the Executive Director, Operations. Tickets can be booked online through KSRTC’s website www.keralartc.in and www.kurtcboooking.com. The KSRTC has announced schedule for services from the Thiruvananthapuram Central bus station to Ernakulam via Kollam and Alappuzha and back.
180 buses
The KSRTC will press into service 180 air-conditioned low-floor buses after the Chill Buses are formally launched by Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran at 11 a.m. on August 1. The buses will ply every one hour from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod and on the eastern and western regions of the State under the Connecting Kerala concept.
