PATNA: The Patna University’s UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, formerly called Academic Staff College, will soon get a new building at an estimated cost of Rs 54.5 lakh in the city’s Krishna Ghat locality.

A decision to shift the HRD centre was taken at a meeting of the advisory committee held on Thursday under the presidentship of VC Rash Bihari Prasad Singh. The UGC has reportedly objected to the centre’s functioning from the premises of another institution despite the fact that it was sanctioned necessary funds for the purpose by the UGC long back.

Centre director Chandrama Singh said fully airconditioned classrooms, conference hall, chambers of director and other officials would be constructed on the land opposite the Institute of Psychological Research and Service. A guesthouse for the participants of orientation and refresher courses will also be constructed.

Singh said a modern computer lab would also be set up at the centre. A two-member committee consisting of PU pro-VC Dolly Sinha and NOU computer science expert N K Pandey has been constituted by the advisory committee to examine the proposal for modernization of the HRD centre with latest infotech devices.

Set up in late eighties in the light of the New Education Policy, 1985, the centre happens to be one of the oldest in India. This centre is likely to hold as many as 16 training programmes for the teachers, university administrators and college principals this year.
