The Kerala High Court has ordered a Crime Branch inquiry into the death of Sunitha of Perunguzhi, near Thiruvananthapuram.
Allowing a petition filed by the mother of the deceased, the court directed the Director General of Police to entrust the investigation to an officer not lower than the rank of Dy.SP of Crime Branch, for unearthing the circumstances that led to the death.
The woman was found hanging in a temporary shed attached to her house two years ago. The post-mortem report revealed that she died of hanging.
There were materials, the court noted, to indicate that Sunitha had picked a quarrel with her husband. Thereafter, the couple went to bed and some time later, Sunitha committed suicide, it said. The court noted that though the police seemed to have confirmed that it was a case of suicide, the reasons that led to her death were not affirmed.
It was also not ascertained whether any person had abetted the death of Sunitha. The investigation did not appear to inspire confidence, the court noted.
