Laying the foundation for the development works of district headquarters in March last year, Minister for Municipal Administration K.T. Rama Rao had announced the sanction of ₹14.37 crore from the Hyderabad Metro Development Authority (HMDA). Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, Lok Sabha member K. Prabahkar Reddy, MLA Chinta Prabhakar and others were present on that occasion.
Now, Mr. Rama Rao has directed the officials and contractors to complete the works within 10 months, since the deadline was over about four months ago and the works were still pending. Out of the 200 butterfly lights that need to be erected in the meridian, only 170 has been completed.
The footpath, that was supposed to be completed from Pothireddypally chowrasta to the town, has several unattended patches. At some places the footpath was occupied by roadside vendors. The drainage on either side of the road was under ‘grabbing’ at several places. At some other places the tiles that were used for laying footpath were damaged due to low quality of work.
All these issues came to light during a visit made by MLA Chinta Prabhakar, municipal chairperson B. Vijya Lakshmi and Collector Vasam Venkateswarlu accompanied by municipal and HMDA officials on Thursday, to inspect the progress of development works in the headquarters. At several places the overflowing drains and garbage on roadside has irked both of them.
Transformers and electric poles on the main road have also come to their notice. The officials were asked to desilt the drains and remove the poles with the assistance of electricity department.
“We are taking up the development of the district headquarters beyond the party lines. There was no dearth of funds and the Minister has promised to sanction even another ₹5 crore or more. I request all the councillors to cooperate for the development. The works will be completed in the next two to three months. However, sensitive issues will not be touched,” said Mr. Prabhakar, while speaking to reporters.
