14 killed in bus accident in Uttarakhand

AT LEAST 14 people were killed and 17others injured, when a passenger bus fell into a deep gorge near Kirgani in Tehri district in Uttarakhand today. According to police sources the illfated State Roadways bus was going from Uttarkashi toHaridwar.

On receiving the news of accident, rescue team rushed to the spot to help rescue operation. Eight seriously injured people were flown by helicopter for treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh, while other injured are being treated in the nearby hospitals.

Post-mortem of the dead people is being conducted on the spot. Most of the passengers were from Uttarkashi. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has announced an aid of 2 lakh rupees each to next of kin of the dead and 50 thousand rupees each to the injured.

He has also ordered a magisterial enquiry into the causes of accident. District Administration has been asked to provide proper treatment to the injured persons.

State Governor K.K Paul has expressed his deep grief for the people killed in the accident.
