GURUGRAM: The cyber cell of Gurugram police busted a fake call centre and arrested six persons in Delhi on Tuesday night. The arrested persons were cheating people of money on the pretext of providing loans under Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Protsahan Yojana (PMRPY).
The arrested persons had made a rule to not target anyone living in the national capital to avoid police surveillance and only targeted people living in different parts of Gurugram. The matter came to light when one of the victims, a resident of Gurugram, lodged a complaint with the cyber cell.

According to police, a youth who received training at Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and his five friends were operating the fake call centre from the Samaypur Badli area of Delhi for the past one-and-a-half years.

ACP (cyber crime) Hitesh Yadav said that they received a complaint from a city resident some time ago, saying that he was cheated on the pretext of being given a loan under PMRPY. “During the investigation, we found out that it was not an isolated case and many more people had been cheated in a similar fashion,” said Yadav, adding that they tracked down the fake call centre soon.

On Tuesday night, police raided the fake call centre in Samaypur Badli and arrested the six persons who were running the scam in the name of ‘Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme’. “All the accused were produced before a court on Wednesday and were sent to five-day police remand,” said Yadav, adding that they were expecting to get more details during interrogations.

Till now, police are not clear about how many people were cheated and how much money was collected by them.

Sunil Yadav, the ITI-certified youth, was the leader of the team which included Keshav, Dilip, Ajit, Suraj and Pankaj. All the youths were aged 20-25 years.

This is not the first fake call centre that has been busted by police. In the past one month, police have busted three fake call centres. In May, they busted one in Sector 34. That one was involved in cheating US citizens on the pretext of tax evasion.
