KOCHI: The High Court on Wednesday ordered to entrust the investigation into the road accident case in which a woman who had allegedly helped the victim was implicated as an accused by the Chingavanam police with the crime branch.
The court issued the order on a petition filed by Deepti Mathew of Kottayam seeking further probe into the case. She submitted while she and her three friends were travelling on September 18 last year through MC Road to Kottayam, a motorbike proceeding in front of her car hit a person standing on the road at Nattakom Ettupadi Junction.
The rider somehow escaped unscathed and went away. The petitioner who was driving the car behind the motorbike immediately stopped the car and got down as a gesture of humanity. She also took the injured to the hospital in her car.
Later, the road accident victim succumbed to injuries. On the basis of the statement of the witnesses, a case was registered by the Chingavanam police station. She was called to the police station and the principal sub-inspector rudely told her she would be implicated in the crime.
The petitioner said she had been implicated in the case despite her humanitarian act. She had submitted various representations to the state government, State Women’s Commissions and the Human Rights Commission, but they were all in vain.
