Members of Youth Congress on Wednesday tried to gherao Vidhan Sabha to register their protest on different issues, predominately over the recent case of assaulting Swami Agnivesh at Pakur, land acquisition amendment Bill and police atrocities in Khunti.

Moreover in an attempt to control the mob marching to the Assembly police personnel had to use water cannons and lathi charge to disperse the protestors. According to the eyewitnesses several agitators got injured when the police personnel resorted to lathi charge to thwart their march around 2 PM. Some policemen were also injured in the clash.

The agitators during the protest damaged some vehicles, bringing the regular traffic movement at one of the prime locations to halt for more than an hour. Despite attempts of the police team to disperse the mob for smooth vehicular movement, the situation went out of control when hundreds of youths broke the barricading to reach the Assembly. According to the sources, the protestors have gathered on the spot at 10 AM before the House could resume on its the third day, but were stopped at Birsa Chowk.

As per the information, no protestor sustained any serious injury yet a few of them have claimed that around 100 members of the protesting groups were injured during the lathi charge. Besides, the members of youth congress, supporters of different opposition parties were also present on the spot.

“No protestor has been detained. Those who sustained injuries have been admitted at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for treatment. Further, in accordance to law action will be taken against the offenders who created trouble,” said City SP Aman Kumar.

Meanwhile, in the late evening, Senior Congress leaders Alamgir Alam and Subodh Kant Sahay went to meet the injured party workers admitted at the casualty unit of RIMS. Nearly, 10 to 12 members of Congress Youth Wing have been admitted at RIMS after sustaining serious injuries. The protest was organized under the banner ‘BJP Hatao, Bharat Bacchao’ and saw the participation of approximately 500 party workers.

Congress State President Ajoy Kumar in a statement said that to suppress the voice of those who are against the policy and ideology of BJP, such merciless action has been taken up. “BJP is suppressing the voice of all those against them. Now, every individual is familiar with the intention of the ruling party here, especially after the land bill matter and after witnessing the physical attack on a social activist now. Today’s act of BJP was undemocratic as everyone has got right to register their protest on issues affecting them,” he added.
