GURUGRAM: Three children in the economically weaker sections (EWS) category, whose parents protested against Sector 10’s Euro International School in front of the deputy commissioner’s office on Monday, have been given admission to the school after submitting an undertaking that it would stand cancelled if their credentials were found to be false.
On Tuesday, the three students were admitted in classes 3, 4 and 8. After the protest on Monday, the parents didn’t get any assurance from the DC but they believe that the school would not have changed its decision if they had not protested.

Pinky, whose son was admitted to Class 3, said, “We haven’t got any admission number but the principal told us to visit on Thursday.”

The school authorities said that the district administration did not approach them regarding the EWS admissions. Satyavir Yadav, chairman, Euro International School, said, “There was no pressure on us but we have given admission to the three students, taking the number of students admitted to this school under the EWS category to seven. The administration was looking into some cases because it has to investigate all EWS applications but it didn’t approach us.”

The applications of several students, who had sought admissions under the EWS category, were not accepted by the school.

Pradeep Singh Saroha, who is seeking admission for his daughter in Class 2, said, “The school told us that no seats were left. But now that the administration has made sure that three students have got justice, what about us?” Several parents also claimed that the school was carrying out unnecessary verification before admitting students under the EWS category. Minu, who is seeking admission for her daughter in Class 2, said, “The school made us undergo the verification process three times and are insisting on it again. The district administration has also carried it out.”

Parents with Rs 15L income seek EWS seat

The annual earning of a father, who had applied for his daughter’s admission to Euro International School under the EWS category in April, is mentioned as Rs14,80,000 in his income certificate. School officials said that they sent the case to the district administration who would investigate it. The father, however, said that a typo error was causing the issue. Rohtash, a Mewat resident who claimed to be an ambulance driver, said, “This is wrong. I don’t know who has made the mistake - the tehsildar or the clerk who typed out the income certificate. My annual income is Rs 1,48,000. They have added an extra zero.” Similarly, another parent who had applied for his ward’s admission in Colonel’s Central Academy was found to be the owner of a Wagon R. However, he said, “I purchased the car for Rs1.8lakh to put it to commercial use in a hotel.” Prem Lata Yadav, district elementary education officer, said, “The district administration is looking into the applications.” TNN
