I-T searches seem to be conducted in TN for BJP’s benefit, Stalin says

CHENNAI: DMK working president M K Stalin on Thursday alleged that income tax searches in Tamil Nadu, which have been happening for the last two years, seemed to be conducted for the benefit of the BJP, which is in power at the Centre.
In a statement, Stalin listed out the I-T searches conducted in the state in the last two years -- starting with the searches on the premises of Karur Anbunathan and the latest being those on the premises of SPK & Co. He said there was no sign of the I-T department taking any action after the searches.

"With no further action beyond the searches, it sends out a message to people that the exercises were carried out for the benefit of the BJP,” he said. The searches seemed to be a pressure tactic, he added.

He demanded that income tax department hand over the investigation reports to the CBI.

Later, speaking to reporters here, Stalin said he would call on governor Banwarilal Purohit on Monday to discuss the I-T searches in the residences and offices of SPK & Co promoter Nagarajan Seyyadurai, who is said to be close to an AIADMK leader, and his associates in the last few days. More than Rs 180 crore in cash and 107kg of gold were seized from the residences and offices belonging to Seyyadurai and his relatives and associates.
