GURUGRAM: Two bike-borne
youths allegedly came to the office-cum-residence of GURUGRAM
zila parishad (district council) chairman Kalyan Singh Chauhan in Civil Lines on Tuesday night and asked his cook his whereabouts at gunpoint. They fled when he managed to raise an alarm. Cops have filed an FIR and beefed up Chauhan’s security.
The incident has raised security concerns about Civil Lines, which has the residences of state minister Rao Narbir Singh as well as top administrative officials.
Police are trying to identify the accused through CCTV footage from nearby areas, but have no clue about their identities so far.
According to the police complaint by Chauhan, his cook Anand had gone outside to lock the main gate at 9:39pm on Tuesday when two youths on a Bajaj Pulsar approached him.
“I was out on some work at that time. As Anand was about to close the gate, the duo came to him and asked where Situ was. My nickname, Situ, is known only to family and close friends. My cook is new and not aware about my nickname, so he asked them who Situ was. The youths became furious and one of them whipped out a gun. They threatened to kill him if he didn’t call me. Anand came to the house on the pretext of fetching me and informed the security guards. But by the time they reached the gate, the accused had fled towards Rajiv Chowk,” Chauhan told cops.
“My PSO (personal security officer) then called me. I reached home after some time and informed police. I don’t know who was asking for me. I want strict action against the accused,” he added.
An FIR was registered against the unidentified accused under sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intention) of IPC and section 25-54-59 of Arms Act at Civil Lines police station on Wednesday. “Our teams are on the job. According to the complaint filed by the chairman, the incident happened outside his house. We’ve beefed up his security and added two more cops to his security team. We are investigating the case and the accused will be arrested soon,” said police commissioner K K Rao.
