GURUGRAM: The city authorities are taking steps to ensure that no traffic snarls and other incidents are caused by the movement of kanwariyas through the city from July 25. The traffic police will designate lanes for the movement of the pilgrims and drones will also be used to monitor the entire yatra.
Kanwariyas are expected to cross the city through the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. Cops will be deployed at strategic points like Sohna, Farrukhnagar and Pataudi road, through which a large number of these pilgrims are expected to pass.

Gurugram deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said, “Dedicated lanes will be marked to control the movement of kanwariyas during the yatra. Routes will be identified as per safety and traffic concerns and duty magistrates and police force will be deployed at critical locations.” Kanwariyas will not be allowed in the main carriageway, he said.

Concessionaire MCEPL (Millennium City Expressway Private Limited) is getting ready for the movement of kanwariyas as well. MCEPL official Sai Krishna said, “We have decided to deploy two cranes. Around 92 marshals will be stationed along the expressway from Delhi Cantonment to Kherki Daula toll plaza. These marshals will be given baton lights, torches and other things like plastic ropes, whistles, red flags and flex boards.”

The movement of kanwariyas will be monitored closely by city police. Hira Singh, ACP traffic, said: “We will ensure that the yatra goes off smoothly. Cops will be stationed at all strategic points.”
