HYDERABAD: In a novel initiative, officials of GHMC along with employees staged a silent protest in front of several major hotels, restaurants in the city on Wednesday. The Corporation has set August 15 as the deadline for bulk garbage generators in the state capital to install compost machines within their premises.

Earlier, the GHMC officials had issued notices with one-month time for the installation of compost units in the premises. The unit can be set up in the area measuring 40 square yards to 200 square yards depending on the amount of garbage generated. The Swachh Bharat Mission, in its guidelines, mentioned the requirements for the units based on the size of the establishments.

The initiative has drawn a  positive response from hotels and restaurants and many of them, like Swagath Grand, came forward to install compost machines in their premises, officials said.
