Despite repeated requests to civic agencies concerned, waterlogging spots remain flooded and unattended to, complained the Delhi Traffic Police on Wednesday.
They said they had prepared a list of 553 waterlogged spots in the city in 2017. Even after a year, the situation remained the same, the police said.
Smooth traffic flow
The traffic police said they keep reporting waterlogging problems from the same locations to the civic agencies concerned to ensure smooth traffic flow.
There are 553 waterlogged spots across the city, where rainwater takes longer to recede, the police said. Of these, the issue of waterlogging has been reported more than three times during the season in 96 locations.
In 78 locations, the same has been reported more than twice. Only 190 locations reported the problem occasionally, the traffic police data said.
“We keep updating the civic agencies concerned with waterlogging locations during rain. There are several locations where the waterlogging issue is persistent. Many of these locations are on main roads, which lead to traffic congestions,” said Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
During the rain on Monday, the traffic police informed the civic agencies of waterlogging at 30 locations, he said, adding that all of them were on the main roads.
Major areas
The problem is reported frequently under Minto bridge, Ranjeet Singh Marg, under Mayapuri flyover, Qutub Chowk and under Hanuman Setu.
Motorists in the city also slammed the civic body for its tall claims and lack of adequate measures to deal with the problem.
“Waterlogged roads make it difficult to commute. The situation is going from bad to worse. The same spots will get waterlogged in the future as nothing is going to change in terms of city’s drainage,” said Vipul Singh, a commuter.
The Delhi High Court took suo motu cognisance of the issue in the city on Monday and asked Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash to resolve the issue.
High Court order
Mr. Prakash held a meeting with the stakeholders on Wednesday, said government sources. He has been directed by the High Court to submit a report in 10 days.
