5 out of 26 Green Projects off-track

Out of total 26 project, tagged under “Green Project”  of the city Goverment, five projects are off-track. These five “off - track” projects are: Make Delhi kikar free, Edge-to-edge paving and landscaping of  Public Works Department (PWD) roads, replacing all street lights with energy efficient LED lights under ESCO model and strengthening   the enforcement wing of the Transport Department and roll out 1,000 fully electric buses in Delhi.

“Rest of the projects are on track”, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said while reviewing the status of  implementation of Green Budget.

 “The project of Greening Delhi is in mission mode by plantation of 30 lakh trees and shrubs is in full swing and should be completed by 30th September 2018, a Delhi Government official said.  

Meanwhile, Environment Minister Imran Hussain on Wednesday directed the department and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to strictly implement the ban on sale, production, storage, supply, import etc., of “Chinese Manja” in Delhi during the upcoming festive season i.e. Independence Day celebrations and Raksha Bandhan.

The status of implementation of the ban was reviewed in the meeting chaired by the Minister and attended by the Secretary (Environment), Member Secretary Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and other senior officers of the Environment Department and DPCC. 

“Use of Chinese Manja or Sharp edged thread for kite flying poses grave risk to wildlife and environment besides risk to injuries and death of human beings,” said the minister.

Incidentally, Delhi Government vide its Notification dated January 2017 has put a complete ban on the sale, production, storage, supply, import, and use of kite flying thread made out of nylon, plastic or any other synthetic material including popularly known as “Chinese Manja”.

 “Kite flying in Delhi is permissible only with a cotton thread, free from any sharp or metallic, glass components, adhesives  thread strengthening materials,” the minister said .

The Minister also directed Environment Department to issue public notice for the awareness of general public. He also appealed to the public to desist from using Chinese Manja or Sharp edged thread while flying kites.
