Pan-India home buyer's body has written to President Ram Nath Kovind requesting him not to give his assent to the Housing Industry Regulation Act (HIRA) notified by the West Bengal government, which will set a "dangerous precedent" for other states and make the RERA "redundant".
The Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) was established in each state under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, to regulate real estate sector in the country.
A delegation of the FPCE met Congress president Rahul Gandhi today and requested him to take up the issue with leades of Trinmool Congress, which is in power in West Bengal.
According to the association, the West Bengal government has notified 'the West Bengal Housing Industry Regulation Act, 2017' (WBHIRA) while "ignoring" the RERA, the pan India legislation.
"This action of West Bengal government questions the supremacy of Parliament. How can a state not implement a law (RERA) passed by Parliament. This can also lead to other states to follow West Bengal and in due course making the RERA redundant," the FPSE said in a statement.
