DGP Dr RP Sharma on Wednesday suspended Laxmipur police station IIC Jagannath Acharya with immediate effect for his gross misconduct in exhibiting suspicious and lackadaisical attitude in dealing with an important NDPS case that was lodged in Laxmipur PS in Koraput district.

DGP has further instructed the Koraput SP to submit immediately the necessary draft charge, memo of evidence along with relevant documents against IIC Acharya through the South-Western Range DIG for drawl of disciplinary proceeding against him. In the intervening night of July 11 and 12 as per intelligence inputs, Laxmipur PS staffs detained a truck, suspected to be carrying ganja. However, due to suspected and deliberate negligence of the IIC, the detained driver managed to escape and as per law, the IIC did not report the matter to the SDPO or the SP.

After inquiry the SP had submitted a report to DGP. As prima facie evidence was established and a departmental proceeding is being contemplated, Acharya was placed under suspension.
