NAGPUR: In a news that would bring smiles on the faces of
Maratha community, that is fighting for 16% reservation in jobs and education,
Maharashtra chief minister
Devendra Fadnavis assured the same in the recently announced mega recruitment for 72,000 government jobs.
While replying to the issue raised by leader of opposition (LOP) Dhananjay Munde and MLA Vinayak Mete, in Maharashtra council during the monsoon session on Thursday, the CM informed that 16% posts would be reserved in recruitment for 72,000 posts.
“We will wait till final decision of Bombay high court in granting 16% reservation to the Marathas and will keep these 16% of seats vacant till then. I assure you that entire backlog would be cleared once the court pronounced its verdict,” he said.
Munde reiterated the demand to hold discussions on the vexed issue under Rule 289, stressing that it was a serious issue as the community was deprived of its benefits since long.
Pointed towards Wednesday’s protests in Parli by the members of Maratha community, he said, “They had given ultimatum that until the government fulfilled their demands, they would not leave the place. They were aggrieved with pending case in high court and even Backward Commission’s report.”
The LOP accused the BJP-led government at Centre of suppressing all demands for reservations, like, by Jats in Rajasthan and Gujjars in Gujarat. “Will the government show its commitment to Maratha community by reserving 16% seats in mega recruitment drive or not?,” he asked the CM.
The CM explained that BJP-Sena government had cleared bill for granting reservations to Marathas, but it was later stayed by the HC. The government, then went to Supreme Court, which, then sent it back to high court.
