Following directions of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) that the office bearers of the organization cannot contest the upcoming assembly polls in the State unless they tender their resignation right away, a number office-bearers keen to contest polls have now started resigning from their posts.

In the same series, District Congress President, Raipur, Vikas Upadhyay and District Congress President, Bemetara, Ashish Chhabra on Wednesday resigned from their posts .

Earlier, Balod District President Abhishek Sharma and one Block President had also tendered resignation in the same bid.

Vikas Upadhyay had earlier contested the assembly elections in 2013 from Raipur (West) Assembly constituency against PWD Minister Rajesh Munat but was defeated. Once again, he had claimed for contesting from the same constituency asserting that he is active in the area for the past five years. “After tendering resignation, I can now freely focus on elections”, he said.

Similarly, Ashish Chhabra and Abhishek Sharma want to contest from Bemetara and Balod respectively. They too claimed that they want to be freed from the responsibilities in the organization to concentrate on elections.

Chhabra had earlier served as a Chairman of Municipal Council, Bemetara and this was his second term as a District President of Congress party there. Sharma is however a newcomer and was recently appointed as the party’s District President for Balod.
