LUDHIANA: A Sahnewal-based security officer lost Rs 25 lakh to fraudsters who promised him a job in
Canada. Ranveer Singh had got in touch with the frauds through a job portal in July last year. After taking Rs 25 lakh, when the accused demanded more money, Singh lodged a police complaint.
An FIR has been registered against seven accused, Sangpillankel, Lufungula N Given, Anshu Kumar, Jonah Tlau, Zarzoliani, Sumila and Tahir Shah under sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (act done by several people in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.
In his complaint, Singh, 53, of Sahnewal Khurd said he worked as a security officer. In July last year, he learnt from the job portal about placement in Canada and he was made to contact
TIM Horton Group for the job of a security officer. The company sent an offer letter and said payment of Rs 25 lakh should be made in India.
He said, “Representative of the company Ashton Adams gave me account numbers of the seven and I made the payment. After getting Rs 25 lakh, they started asking for more money and then I smelled something fishy.”
Investigating officer from Sahnewal police station sub-inspector Simranjeet Kaur said the case was registered after inquiry by the cyber cell of Ludhiana police. They have called Singh to present all the documents and proofs. The police are trying to trace the accused through their
bank accounts.
