PATNA: At least 47 persons fell ill after consuming ‘prasad’ of a puja at Beldariya Tola under Bind block in
Nalanda district on Monday evening.
Police sources said the puja was organized at the house of one Mahendra Jamadar. “People started complaining of uneasiness after eating prasad. Within two hours of consuming prasad, about 24 people started vomiting. The number rose to 47 within a few hours. Family members of Jamadar were also taken ill,” the sources added.
Nalanda DM Thiyagarajan SM said the affected people were immediately rushed to a local primary health centre. According to hospital staff, the symptoms of the patients were loose motion, nausea, headache, stomach pain and fever. The patients were given saline and antibiotics.
“Of the 47 affected persons, eight are still under observation at the PHC. The district administration has formed a committee under the leadership of Nalanda SDO Janardan Prasad Agarwal to probe the incident. The committee will submit its report within the next two days. The samples of leftover prasad have been collected from Jamadar’s house. These samples will be sent to the forensic science laboratory for test,” the DM said, adding more than 12 ambulances were sent to Beldariya Tola to rush the affected persons to the hospital.
