LUDHIANA: Khanna police on Tuesday arrested a drug peddler and recovered one kg
opium from his possession at Alaud Khanna Road. The accused was identified as Pragat Singh of Akalgarh in Phagwara. SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said the accused was searched following suspicion, and drugs were found from his possession. Police said a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered against him at Khanna police station.
In the second case, Khanna police nabbed two persons with 20g of
heroin. The duo was nabbed after checking of vehicles at a checkpost near a hotel in Bhattian village. Both were coming from Delhi road in a white Micra car. They have been identified as Parshinder Singh of
Guru Nanak Nagar, and Nakodar and Jobanpreet Singh of Guru Amardas Nagar, Goindwal Sahib. Police said the accused were being questioned, and more disclosures were expected from them.
Meanwhile, Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of the Government Railway Police (GRP) also arrested a drug peddler and recovered 80 injections of some banned substance during the late evening hours inspection at platform No.1 of the city railway station here on Tuesday. Later, police officials revealed the identity of accused as
Vikram Kumar of Uttar Pradesh. The arrested accused was on his way to selling the injection filled with the banned substance Rexogesic to one of his unknown customers in the old city area.
While providing information regarding the arrest, senior officials of GRP’s CIA staff claimed: “CIA staff of GRP were conducting inspection as usual during the late evening hours of Tuesday at different platforms of the city railway station, but meanwhile, sources gave us a tip-off, and as per information, police officials started the hunt, and arrested a drug peddler who was on his way to give the consignment of a banned substance to one of his unknown costumers.”
Investigation is on to trace old cases in their names. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 20/61/85 of the NDPS Act. Police will present him in the local court and ask for a remand for further investigation regarding the case, to expose other members of the group if he was working for someone.
