Spanish Lama pistol from the drain still a mystery for UP police

Was the Spanish Lama pistol recovered from a drain of Baghpat District Jail used in the grotesque killing of east UP ganglord Munna Bajrangi, or was the UP Police conned by west UP don and alleged assailant Sunil Rathi.

Sources in Baghpat jail claimed that the 7.62 mm pistol recovered from the drain was not the weapon used to snuff  out Bajrangi. They opined that either Rathi fooled the law enforcers or the recovery was a well orchestrated conspiracy of powerful people to get Bajrangi killed by Rathi and also ensure thathe was not nailed during the murder trial.

"Rathi is one a shrewd gangster of west UP. He was well aware that the murder weapon's recovery along with his statement would ensure conviction for him in the murder during trial. Hence he got the handgun used in the murder slipped outside the jail and planted another one, which was recovered by the police the same night,” said a source in Baghpat Jail.

"It is also a possibility that local police and some bigwigs were party to the near immaculate murder plan and might have planned the recovery of a handgun to silence public outcry. They know that during trial, Rathi will go scot free as ballistic report would confirm that Bajrangi was not killed with the pistol recovered by the police,” the source added.

"The sequence of events and the subsequent probe throws up certain facts which smack of a larger conspiracy. Why di the Baghpat police not take Rathi on police custody remand to grill him ? Why was the murder weapon not sent for ballistic test to confirm whether Rathi had not misguided them ? These are questions which forces one to think otherwise," he said.

"The pictures of Bajrangi lying in a pool of blood also point towards morethan one person being atthe scene of crime. A scan of the pictures reveal that only Bajrangi was gunned down, he was also fired at twice after he succumbed. The pictures were taken by an aide of the killer and was uploaded on social media. Even the autopsy report confirmed that he was shot twice minutes after he was dead," said the source.

Meanwhile sources also confirmed that DIG (Prison) Agra, Sanjeev Tripathi, during his enquiry failed to confirm as to how and when the pistol used in the killing reached inside the jail. He was also uncertain whether it was later removed and another weapon planted to save Rathi. He reportedly found that Rathi’s barrack was never checked and everything reached the west UP don freely.

Though Tripathi refused to speak claiming that he would submit his report to the government by the weekend, sources said that the officer also found that gang members and visitors of Rathi freely went inside the jail to meet him without checking.
