Ayushman Bharat Yojana-the ‘National Health Protection Scheme’ introduced by the Centre this year-is going to be the principal campaign theme of BJP in the State for the 2019 Lok Sabha  polls, said the  State Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik on Tuesday. “The proposed scheme is yet to take off, but the party has plans to encash on it. The Ayushman Bharat Yojana is meant to provide Rs 5 lakh health insurance coverage to all. As per our estimate, 27 lakh families would be covered under the programme in the State while nearly 10 crore families would be benefited  through the same across the country,” said the Minister.

Notably the Yojana focuses on creating a health and wellness infrastructure and extending insurance coverage to at least 40 percent of the Indian population. The NHPS would overcome the flaws of the currently existing Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana scheme which covers the unorganized sectors alone. The scheme offers Rs 5 lakh health insurance coverage to each eligible Indian family for medical care.

A trust would be formed to give social security to the people and it would be launched in the trust mode rather than on the insurance mode, the minister said, adding that some other schemes, including the CM health insurance scheme would be merged in the scheme.
