HYDERABAD: Demanding that the state government completely ban corporate colleges in Telangana and arrest chairmen of Sri Chaitanya and Narayana Group, scores of students on Tuesday staged a dharna in front of Sri Chaitanya’s head office in Madhapur.
More than 1,000 students, who took part in the protest, organised under the aegis of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), alleged the involvement of leaders from the ruling party in the Eamcet paper leak scam and cited it as the reason for state government’s silence on the issue.

“Except for politicians from the ruling party being involved in the scam, we don’t see any reason why the state government is not initiating any action against the culprits. Instead of wasting time by arresting mediators like V Vasu Babu, chairmen of Narayana and Sri Chaitanya should be put behind the bars,” said Ch Mahender, one of the protesters.

They alleged that seven of the protesters have been picked up by the police for staging a ‘peaceful’ dharna and demanded that they be released immediately. “Police picked up our men with an ulterior motive. They did the same with our state secretary Ayappa, who is in police custody for a few days now. We want them to immediately release our people and drop false charges levied against them,” said M Ravinder, member, central working committee, ABVP.

They said that government should start online admissions for intermediate courses at least from the upcoming academic year and allow only one college to run under a single name effectively ending ‘brand’ education.

“Corporate colleges are luring parents and their wards by showing ranks secured in some branch as bait. The only way to stop them is by allowing only one branch with a single name,” said K Sai Baba, a protester, who is among the seven picked by police.
