‘Expedite desilting works in Karur’

Monitoring Officer Asish Vachhani on Tuesday directed officials to expedite kudimaramathu works in the district.

Inspecting the progress of works, along with Collector T. Anbalagan, at Thirumanilaiyur, Mr. Vachhani said the State government had sanctioned ₹329 crore to carry out desilting works in 28 districts including Karur and Tiruchi.

As many as 1,511 works had been taken up under kudimaramathu works. A sum of ₹2 crore had been apportioned to Karur district for the current year. It included works at Thirumaniyur, Mayanur, Manavasi, Pallapalayam, Panjamadevi, Chinna Dharapuram and Nanjakalakurichi.

Mr. Vachhani said works such as silt accumulation, deepening of water spread areas and strengthening of bunds were being taken up. Strengthening and reconstruction of surplus weirs and sluices had also been taken up. The works that began on July 1 were progressing well. More than 60% had been completed and the rest should be expedited.
