Chas gets ODF status for third year

It’s the third consecutive year when Chas secured the open defecation-free (ODF) status. Last year Chas become the first municipal corporation in Jharkhand to get the status.

Chas the satellite city of Bokaro district declared open defecation-free by the Ministry of Urban Development Government of India, informed JP Yadav, Executive Engineer Chas Municipal Corporation (CMC). 

After two successive surveys conducted by the teams of Quality Control of India, New Delhi and KPMG Ranchi, Chas got the status. After survey, the team evaluated the ODF status, said Bholu Paswan Mayor CMC.

“This is the result of all the efforts of the local residents as well as CMC and district administration officials. It is proud moment for us. Besides constructing toilets, it is essential that nudge habit should be changed for open defecation behaviour. Our efforts are ‘on’ to promoter better sanitation and hygiene to the residents of Chas.

Toilets are only a part of the sanitation solution though we are on move to tackle Sewage, wastewater and solid waste management on war foot basis,” said Bholu.
