The all-new Ford Focus will be available on SA roads early next year. Here are 10 things you should know about the new mid-size family car.

From its powerful and fuel efficient EcoBoost engines to its refined styling and new technologies, there is plenty to like about the latest Focus.

DETAILS: All-new Ford Focus makes world debut

In Europe the line-up includes the Titanium, ST-Line and Vignale.

The all-new Focus Active crossover model features rugged sports utility vehicle-inspired styling that includes raised ride-height, roof bars and additional cladding.

Here are a 10 things you should know about the Ford Focus:

1. Eco-friendly engines

Customers can choose from a range of EcoBoost petrol engines; South Africa won't receive any diesel variants but can choose from the 1.0-litre EcoBoost and new 1.5-litre EcoBoost engines.

Powertrains are supported by standard auto start-stop; and slick-shifting six-speed manual and new eight-speed automatic transmissions for effortless cruising.


2. Refreshed styling

Athletic and dynamic with a long bonnet and muscular rear haunches, each model is differentiated with unique elements including aluminium details for the Vignale exterior; large spoiler and open front apertures for the ST-Line; and contrast silver front and rear skid plates for the Active.

3. Packed with tech

Adaptive cruise control, stop/go, speed-sign recognition and lane-Centring are just some of the many technological advancements made to further improve driving and safety.



4. Connected and comfortable

Focus introduces FordPass Connect embedded modem technology for customers in Europe, turning the vehicle into a mobile WiFi hotspot with connectivity for up to 10 devices.

Devices can remain connected via Bluetooth to Ford’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system while using wireless charging.

5. Headed for SA in 2019

The new Focus is scheduled to make its appearance on local roads early next year during Q1.

6. More space

Comfort is key to the more refined and upscale all-new Focus occupant experience. Front seat occupants will enjoy generous shoulder room of 1421mm, and instrument panel positioning is optimised for greater space.

7. More Ford models on the way

The new Focus is one of many new Ford headed to South Africa including the  Ecosport (arrives end of July 2018) and the Raptor (set for local launch in 2019). The new Fiesta and Figo have already been launched earlier in 2018.

8. New and improved transmission

Ford’s new quick-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission is engineered to further optimise fuel-efficiency and deliver responsive performance.

Ford’s latest six-speed manual transmissions also enhance the driving experience with improved shift quality; reduced gear whine and rattle.

9. Reduced emissions

The all-new Focus delivers fuel-efficiency and CO2 emission improvements of 10% across the range, according to the automaker.

Fuel-efficiency is further improved by weight-reductions of up to 88kg compared with the outgoing Focus.

10. Energetic and responsive

The all-new Focus delivers the most fun-to-drive experience of any mid-size family car. The sophisticated independent rear suspension system is offered for the first time with Continuously Controlled Damping.
