Whittaker, who is making history as the first woman to play the iconic in 'Doctor Who', has said she hopes to inspire young girls with the casting.

"There's the chiseled superhero that we're used to seeing and we've all grown up with," the 36-year-old said in an interview with Radio Times, as reported by The

"But 'Doctor Who' has never been that, which is wonderful. It's attainable in so many ways. And now it isn't just attainable for half of the population. The other half can be as well," he added.
