Thane wall collapse: 3-year-old boy and 2 others injured

Thane: A 3-year-old boy and two others were injured in Hajuri, Thane, when the wall of a house collapsed on them on Tuesday. They are currently in hospital.

The balcony of the house was being repaired when the wall collapse occurred. The wall of a ground-plus-one structure in Kherola Chawl, behind Jama Masjid, collapsed in the afternoon,  civic officials said. Houseowner Shadab Siddique said the wall was not in a bad condition, but had fallen owing to some ongoing repair work. “Work was going on in the balcony of the upper floor of my house. Something went wrong and the wall suddenly collapsed. Customers in the shop next to my house got injured,” Siddique informed.

Three people, including a toddler, were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital. Shabitul Khan, 50, who has suffered major injuries, was admitted to Vighnaharta Hospital.  Raju Kureshi, 45, was shifted to Criticare Hospital and Mohammad Faja, 3, was shifted to a private hospital nearby.

Santosh Kadam, in-charge of Thane’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), said the chawl, where the incident occurred, is illegal.

“The entire area is full of illegal slums, so there can be similar incidents in the future. The RDMC has cleared the debris,” he said.
