Meanwhile, the monsoon session of Parliament will begin shortly, with the Opposition set to target the government on a number of issues “agitating” the people, including lynchings by cow vigilantes, unemployment, safety of women, misrule in J&K among others. The first day of Monsoon session in Parliament on Wednesday is expected to be a stormy affair as Opposition is pitched for a no-confidence motion. Twelve Opposition parties have decided to bring a motion of no-confidence in the Lok Sabha against the Modi-led BJP government. The N Chandrababu-led Telugu Desam Party, NDA’s former ally, had already given notice for a no-trust motion on Tuesday for failing to grant special status to Andhra Pradesh. The notice is likely to be taken up today. The Opposition is also expected to target the government on a number of issues including lynchings by cow vigilantes, unemployment, failure of the Centre’s foreign policy, safety of women, misrule in J&K, dilution of the Atrocities Act by the Supreme Court and the dilution of reservations in autonomous institutions like IITs.
Rescue operations are underway at Greater Noida’s Shah Beri village where two buildings collapsed on Tuesday, killing at least three. Four teams of NDRF have been deployed and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the district administration and police to monitor the ongoing operations.
