Incessant rains damage roads in Millennium City
Numerous potholes have come up in some areas while the bitumen topping has been washed away in others exposing the poor standard of work and maintenance by Cuttack Municipal Corporation.

CUTTACK: Incessant rain for the last 48 hours has damaged more than 60 per cent of roads in the Millennium City. Though water has receded from the low-lying inundated areas, heavy rain took its toll on the roads connecting the localities. Numerous potholes have come up in some areas while the bitumen topping has been washed away in others exposing the poor standard of work and maintenance by Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
Besides, in those places where sewerage work funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and executed by Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB) is being carried out, the roads are in a miserable shape. The roads from Tulasipur to Kanika Chhak, Khatbin Sahi to Sutahaat and Mission Road, Tinikonia Bagicha to Hati Pokhari and Dagbar Sahi, Buxi Bazar to Mission Road and Howdah Motors to Mangalabag have been severely damaged.
Similar condition prevails in Chandi Mandir, Biharibag, Kazi Bazar, Mahidas Bazar, Mehendipir Bazar, Ganga Mandir, Seminary Chhak, Gaurishankar Park, Choudhary Bazar, Deula Sahi, Jhanjir Mangala and Jhola Sahi.Jitendra Mohanty, a resident of Mission Road said it has become tough to negotiate numerous potholes filled with rain water on the roads across the city. Sources said as many as two persons were injured in mishaps due to poor road conditions. Meanwhile, CMC Commissioner Bikash Ranjan Mohapatra said the civic body would take up necessary repairs after assessing the damage to the roads in the city.
