Heavy rain sweeps away 3 children

Heavy rainfall created havoc, sweeping away three children in the high water current due to swollen nullah and drainage systems in Panchsheel Nagar, Kolar and Slaughter house area; two of the children were saved successfully, while one child is still missing.

The inclement weather conditions proved costly for three boys in three different locations of the city who were swept in the gushing water on Tuesday morning. After receiving information regarding drowning of two boys in Panchsheel, divers of BMC reached the spot but it was found that a four-year-old boy Daggu fell in a pot hole and was saved by locals while search for the other boy continued.

The missing child was identified as Dongu Bansal, son of Rohit Bansal. In another incident a youth who fell inside nullah at Slaughter house was saved by BMC divers and was identified as Faiyaaz (19) of Chambal Colony. Jehangirabad police said that the youth fell accidentally as he was not aware of the nullah and to collect his slipper which started to float in water he fell inside the nullah. Another incident of drowning of boy was reported in Kolar but after the team tried to contact it was found that no such incident occurred in Kolar during the day. Efforts are made by state disaster management team which remained alert and working throughout the day. The colonies of Old city area which are prone to water logging were the most affected. The State capital received 3.5 inch of rainfall within five hours which swelled the drainage systems and water logging was reported at several areas prone to water clogging.

The disaster management team remained busy in the state capital after heavy rainfall lashed the city. The rainfall which started at around 7 am continued to lash the city till noon and later light showers continued in the afternoon.

 A team of 10 divers of BMC continued to search for the boy at Panchsheel Nagar who remained missing till the filling of the report.

Meanwhile, BMC mayor Alok Sharma reached the BMC call centre which caters to monsoon related emergencies. Over 53 emergencies were reported till noon.
