Mumbai: Tansa became the fourth lake supplying water to Mumbai to overflow this monsoon on Tuesday. However, the bigger lake systems are yet to reach full capacity.
Mumbai is supplied water by seven lakes located in neighbouring districts. Of these, Vihar, Tulsi and Modak Sagar lakes have already overflowed. Tansa lake overflowed on Tuesday morning around 6.15 a.m., a day earlier than last year. In 2017, it had overflowed on July 18.
The city requires water stock of 14.47 lakh million litres for a year, of which it already has 10.34 lakh million litres or 71.48%. On this day last year, water stock had stood at 9.84 lakh million litres or 68%. The city saw 37.6mm rainfall till 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. Mumbai has received 73.77% of its annual rainfall so far.
