GURUGRAM: The district branch of the state vigilance bureau has sought details into the land allotted to Ecogreen Energy Pvt Ltd, the private agency hired by MCG for solid waste management in the city.
Mahabir Singh, deputy director, vigilance department, wrote a letter to MCG in June, earlier this year, asking for details of the plots and their owners, along with maps and other records.

MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav said that his team did receive a letter, seeking details of the plots. “We will be furnishing all details. However, I am not sure on the scope and the extent of the letter yet,” he said.

According to sources, the action comes after complaints against the private agency which was allotted a plot in Bandhwari for a waste management plant and several other plots for waste transfer centres.

Residents and environmentalists have objected to land allotment for a waste transfer centre in DLF 1. Three cases have also been filed against MCG and Ecogreen in the same regard.

In the letter, which was accessed by TOI, the vigilance department has also asked for the number of MCG employees involved with the solid waste management project.

According to the MCG officials, the letter was sent to the planning department to get details on land and the joint commissioner for zone 4 to get details on the total number of employees working with Ecogreen.

“A series of complaints against the agency have been pouring in since the beginning of this year. Many residents’ welfare associations and even councillors have alleged that Ecogreen is not just inefficient but also involved in wrong practices,” said a source.

In one instance, a councillor alleged that the agency was taking money from scrap dealers to not pick up waste from certain areas. The complaint, however, was not taken up by MCG because it was not in writing. There were also some reports of the agency being involved in child labour, which it has since refuted.
