Sensex retreats after hitting record high, drops 147 pts; Nifty ends below 11,000

After scaling a record high of 36,747.87 in early trade, the benchmark BSE Sensex closed nearly 147 points down after a no-confidence motion against the Modi government was moved in the Lok Sabha today. The BSE 30-share barometer dropped by 146.52 points to 36,373.44. The Sensex finished down 146.52 points, or 0.40 percent, at 36,373.44. The high it touched was 36,747.87. Its NSE counterpart Nifty fell 27.60 points, or 0.25 per cent, to 10,980.45 at the close.
