GORAKHPUR: Panic spread in a primary school in Gorakhpur district on Tuesday when the school cook told the management that he suspected that a class 7 student had mixed poison in the food being prepared to be served as mid-day meal presumably to avenge the death of her younger brother. The sibling had died in the school in April after a class 5 student allegedly hit him with a brick.

However, no student was taken ill even as police reached the campus along with a team of Food and Drug Administration department officials which secured samples of the food for examination. A team of doctors was also called to examine the students but it was later revealed that the food was not served.

Police said the accused girl and her mother were questioned at length but the girl denied having mixed anything in the food. Police are waiting for the report from the FDA department. “On the basis of the report, further action will be initiated, if required,” Bankati police station SHO Devendra Singh said.
