Premises of fake trainer in Chennai searched

Coimbatore: A day after the Coimbatore rural police got the custody of G Arumugam, who was arrested in connection with the death of a 19-year-old student during a disaster preparedness drill at a city college, they took him to Chennai on Wednesday and conducted raids at his premises there.
Police had sought Arumugam’s custody for seven days, but the judicial magistrate court on Tuesday sent the fake disaster management trainer in police custody for only four days.

Subsequently, Arumugam was taken to Chennai to search his residence and office at Vandalur. During the raid at his office, police have seized computers and printers, which the accused had reportedly used to print certificates for college students who attended his training programme. They also came across a few printed certificates.

“We don’t know anything about the contents in the computers, as we hadn’t taken any technical expert with us. The systems will be examined by technical experts in Coimbatore,” an official, who was part of the search team, told TOI.

During the interrogation, police have collected bank account details of Arumugam. “We have approached the banks for transaction details to check for undisclosed income and dubious transactions.”

The information that Arumugam had been working for a person, who had trained him, in Chennai was found to be false during the interrogation, the official said. Arumugam would be brought back to the city on Thursday morning.
