CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated a milk processing unit with modern equipment at Sholinganallur, through video conference at the Secretariat on Monday. The unit costs 34 crores. He also declared open a refurbished fish landing centre in Pazhaverkkadu, at a cost of 2.15 crore.  

At the Sholinganallur unit, the milk procured by Aavin will be boiled at 139-degree Celsius, processed and packaged as 200 ml, half-litre and one-litre packets. These packets have an expiration period of 90 days and they need not be refrigerated.  

He also inaugurated modern Aavin parlours set up at Velappadi, Vellore, at a cost of `1.06 crore, and at Ilankamanipuram on Kanyakumari-Nagercoil Highway (worth `70 lakh). He also opened new buildings for Animal Husbandry Department at Tiruvallur, Villupuram, and Thirukovilur.  

An upgraded fish-producing centre at Poondi, similar centres at Thirukkambupuliyur and Kulithalai in Karur district and national fish seed centre at Manimutharu dam in Tirunelveli district were among the facilities for fisheries department, completed at a total cost of `49.23 crores, inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

Indian Oil Corporation has come forward to open petrol selling points at nine places to enable vehicles for Federation of Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Cooperative Societies. In the first phase, a petrol selling point was opened at Namakkal District Cooperative Milk Producers Union in Salem district. The CM also handed over the key for 17 new milk tankers and 25 jeeps for Dairy Development and Animal Husbandry Departments.
