NEW DELHI: The passenger security fee (PSF) of Rs 130 paid by each flyer to cover cost of security deployment at airports could soon rise sharply. Airport operators have told the government that the amount collected from PSF is not enough to meet this cost and want this amount raised.

“The amount from this head goes to pay for salaries of deployment of CISF personnel at airports and also of state police personnel at a few places. Our annual expense on this head is about Rs 900 crore and we face a shortfall of Rs 100 crore. All airport operators have submitted their projections to the aviation ministry and talks are on with them on hiking the PSF amount,” Airports Authority of India chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra said.
