UGC’s stance on the matter sought within a week

The Madras High Court on Monday ordered notice to University Grants Commission (UGC) on a plea to reopen a public interest litigation petition that got disposed of on June 26 after recording its submission of having constituted a committee to determine the fees that could be collected by self-financing institutions for medical and dental courses.

First Division Bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice P.T. Asha sought to know the stand of the UGC within a week after the petitioner V.B.R. Menon contended that the committee should necessarily include a chartered accountant, since the exercise involved assessment of fees that could be collected for the courses, but no such professional had been included so far.
