Police have been keeping a close watch on the SDPI since the murder, and had arrested several activists in raids across the State.

Fout top SDP (Social Democratic Party of India) leaders were arrested in Kochi on Monday in connection with the killing of Maharaja’s College student and Students Federation of India (SFI) activist Abhimanyu.

SDPI Kerala State president P. Adbul Majeed Faisi, vice president M.K. Manoj Kumar, general secretary Roy Arakkal and district president V.K. Shaukath Ali were arrested immediately after they held a press conference at the Ernakulam Press Club to clarify their position on the Abhimanyu killing.

Three persons who reportedly drove the vehicles in which the leaders arrived for the press conference were also picked up by the police. A large police contingent was present near the press club.

Police have been keeping a close watch on the SDPI since the murder, and had arrested several activists in raids across the State.
